What is propolis?

Honeybees are known to produce nectar and royal jelly, but they also produce propolis.

Propolis is a waxy compound made from tree sap that has been nicknamed "bee glue" and is used by honeybees to seal and repair their hives.

Propolis not only holds the hive together, but also protects it from bacterial, viral and fungal infections.

Propolis has a long history of providing a wide range of health support, with people from the Egyptians and Incas to the Greeks and Romans using it to treat a variety of cold symptoms, promote wound healing, and boost the immune system.

The word propolis comes from the Greek words pro, meaning "entrance" and polis, meaning "community" or "city."

The effects of propolis

  • Immune Support : Propolis supports immune function, enhancing your body's ability to fight and heal from illness.
  • Antioxidant Protection : Propolis' high antioxidant properties promote cellular health and protect the body, which plays an important role when the body is under stress.

At a time when the world is feeling stressed due to the effects of COVID-19, propolis can help keep your immune system functioning at its best and fight off illness.

Propolis is available in capsules, toothpaste, throat spray, and liquid extract, with a recommended daily intake of up to 70 milligrams.

While propolis is very safe, we do not recommend it for people with bee or bee pollen allergies. We also recommend consulting a pharmacist or doctor if you are currently taking prescription medications.
